Game Room

Fit for an Arabian prince, this game room (actually an Orchid Island Beach Cabana) exudes an air of Far East luxury. From the ceiling adorned with sheer draperies to the wool rug with a magnificent palm frond design overlaid on a leopard skin print, Elaine Florence has created a perfect place to play.

The bamboo reed ceiling supports an iron chandelier of palm fronds with beaded leopard shades. Drapes are an ivory sheer with a woven bamboo motif. Upholstered lounge chairs, imported from the West Indies are done in a creamy pineapple design while the table holding the chess set and the companion chairs are of teak.

A mirror, with metal animals framing it, hangs over the bright white wet bar that holds a pineapple design ice bucket by Vietri. Graceful, lyre-backed, imported bar stools of bamboo are upholstered in red leather with a palm tree design.

A generous faux bamboo cluster stands in a corner to complete this inviting scene.

Home Office

In a very British mode, Elaine Florence chose pedigree dogs-some of them stuffed and many done in needlepoint on imported, English decorative pillows- to set the masculine tone of this home office. The creme de creme frieze and York manufacturers' leather-like wall covering provide a softly tailored background for the furnishings in this room. From the Arnold Palmer Collection by Lexington, Florence chose a beautifully structured, serpentine desk of cherry wood with practical file drawers at each corner. Brass, hand-painted shaded lamps sit at either end of the desk top and furnish ample light for this work space.

A Bergere, mahogany chair comfortably upholstered in a merlot and burgundy chenille fabric makes an ideal counterpoint to the bench.

Taking center stage is a magnificent credenza with ample glass shelves to display favorite keepsakes and books. It is flanked by a four-panel, wood-framed, hand-painted screen with a scene of birds in flight. Perhaps they are meant to tempt the dogs that adorn hand-crafted needlepoint pillows and the stuffed "hunter" lying in wait under the desk.

Elaine Florence combines the soft accents of the carpet and plants with hard woods for a calming complement.
